On Alexandra’s Fifth Birthday: A Tribute To Hope

Affectionately known as Lexou by her family and loved ones, Alexandra Najjar has undoubtedly become the personification of hope in the face of the devastating August 4 explosion.

Filled with love, energy, and light, this beautiful child should have been blowing out her fifth birthday candles today surrounded by her parents, Tracy and Paul.

A criminal government and dozens of corrupt officials would store nearly 3,000 tonnes of explosives in the heart of our city for its foreseeable demise. More than 17 months later, the corrupt powers that be continue to shield themselves from any real accountability or justice.

Still, in despite of it all, it was Lexou’s parents who delivered 6,000 hot meals to families during Christmas of 2021, and a staggering 14,000 meals the following holiday in 2022, showing us that we can find hope in each other.

Against this grim reality, and on her birthday, we rally around Paul, Tracy, and everyone who lost a loved one in the blast. We celebrate Alexandra’s spirit and dedicate our hope for a better nation to her.

She deserved better, and her spirit will always be around to guide us in knowing that we too deserve better.
